Biography

Dr Anand Natarajan is a specialist in the management of Chronic persistent pain and Anaesthetics. He is presently a Senior Medical Officer in Mackay Base Hospital. His private practice location includes Mater Misericordia Hospital in Mackay. He started his career as a consultant in Anaesthesia in India after he had obtained a MD in the year 2000. He soon moved to the United Kingdom in 2002. Since 2002 he has been working for the NHS. He underwent training and worked in various University Hospitals including the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Salford Royal Foundation Trust, University Hospital Aintree, Northwick Park Hospital, London and Walton Centre Liverpool. During this period, he acquired the Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetics, FRCA. Soon after that he qualified and

acquired the Diploma of the European Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive care. He later went on to do the Fellowship in Pain Management at the Wirral University Teaching Hospitals and Walton centre Liverpool. He has also trained in the Pain management departments of Salford Royal Foundation Trust and Lancaster Royal Infirmary. He then acquired the Fellowship of Faculty of Pain Medicine- Royal College of Anaesthetics. He now has been awarded the FANZCA Fellowship of Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetics and FFPMANZCA Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetics.


Dr Natarajan was the Lead in Pain Medicine at the Wirral University Teaching Hospitals. He has equal interest in interventional and noninterventional aspects of pain management. He believes that multidimensional management of pain is important and takes into consideration the biopsychosocial profile of his patients. He was the lead interventionalist in the Department of Pain Management at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. He also was the lead Consultant of the Pain Management Programme there.


Dr Natarajan is keenly interested and involved in academics and Teaching. He stared as a lecturer in Anaesthetics in India. At Wirral University Teaching Hospitals, he was the supervisor of training in Pain Management. He led the pain training there which involved medical students, anaesthetic trainees and the Fellow for Pain Management Programme. Dr Natarajan was also the Chair for the Mersey Chronic Pain Group in the Mersey region in UK.


At present he is interested in managing chronic pain including but not limited to lower back, spine pain, chronic postsurgical pain, shoulder and knee joint pain and does a number of diagnostic blocks often followed by radio frequency procedures. He treats acute and chronic cancer and noncancer pain. Management of intrathecal pumps and Spinal Cord Stimulators.


As for Anaesthetics, He has worked in Tertiary referral centres: for Colorectal surgery (St Marks hospital London) For Head Neck/ENT (Northwick Park Hospital, University Hospital Aintree, Central Manchester University Hospitals) For Neurosurgery (Walton Centre and Royal Salford Hospital), For Maternity (Northwick Park Hospital London, St Marys Hospital Manchester, Liverpool Women’s Hospital), For Robotic Surgery (Wirral University Teaching Hospital).
